TAPS

Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors is, “...the 24/7 tragedy assistance resource for ANYONE who has suffered the loss of a military loved one, regardless of the relationship to the deceased or the circumstance of the death.” In 2008 I spent the better part of a week in Washington D.C. documenting a “Good Grief Camp.” I was part of a film crew, working as a grip and shooting stills. Sanjusan Kaiki

While riding bikes with my, now wife, on Kohama Island, we heard music and decided to find its source. It was a family, at their home, celebrating the 33 anniversary of the death of their grandfather. Both Aiko and I were enchanted by the music and loitered around the street listening. I desperately wanted to take pictures but my cameras were at the hotel. Aiko, asked permission on my behalf and when they said it was okay, we rode as fast as we could to the hotel and back. I am so glad for the effort.
